SCM Elderbus
Access to safe, reliable, and affordable transportation is something most people take for granted. Many people are able walk out of their home and hop into their car parked in the driveway. Others walk a few blocks to the nearest bus stop and use public transit to get to their destination. These options simply are not available to many senior and disabled residents living in our communities. Limited financial resources, physical infirmities, or the lack of public transportation in rural areas are barriers which limit the mobility options of seniors and the disabled. SCM Elderbus helps fill this void by providing a vital transportation link to help meet the everyday needs of the people we serve.
Covid-19 Policy Notice
Passenger Fare Collection Temporarily Suspended
Due to the continuing covid-19 pandemic, the collection of passenger fares on all of our vehicles has been temporarily suspended. The temporary suspension of fare collections will continue through at least 6/30/2025. The policy will be re-evaluated at that time. Any changes to the temporary suspension of fare collections will be announced to the riding public as soon as a decision is reached.
Our Mission
The mission of SCM Elderbus is very simple: Provide safe, reliable, and affordable transportation services to senior and disabled clients residing within the twenty-two communities serviced by the organization. By fulfilling our core mission, we are able to provide more than just a transportation service to those in need. We are also able to provide a measure of independence to a large number of clients who may otherwise be homebound.
We are able to provide an opportunity for people to gather and socialize at events sponsored by a whole host of local organizations. We are able to provide an option for clients to have lunch at a local nutrition site instead of possibly having to forgo a meal. Finally, clients needing transportation are able to plan and schedule appointments at their convenience, rather than plan them around the schedules of friends or family members.
Safety
Safety is our number one priority. That is not just a slogan. It is the most important element of our core mission. All SCM Elderbus drivers are thoroughly screened prior to becoming employees of the Company. Once hired, each driver must successfully complete a comprehensive safety training program. Ongoing safety training is also conducted for all drivers. Random drug and alcohol testing is also an integral part of our overall safety program. Your safety is our responsibility, a charge we do not take lightly.
Reliability
We pride ourselves on meeting the needs of our clients. That includes not only getting you safely to your destination, but also getting you there on time. SCM Elderbus operates more than twenty vehicles within our service area. Each of our vans holds up to nine people. Each vehicle is also equipped with a wheelchair lift to accommodate clients needing such assistance. The size of our vehicle fleet allows us to meet the specific transportation needs of our geographically diverse client base.
Affordability
During these difficult economic times, household expenses are foremost in the minds of most people. This is particularly true for those living on a fixed income. SCM Elderbus strives to not only provide a safe and reliable transportation option for seniors and the disabled, but also an affordable option for the clients we serve.
The cost to utilize our curb-to-curb service for all rides within your community, no matter the purpose, is $1.50. We will arrive to pick you up at your location, and at the time you request, and safely bring you to your destination, all for $1.50. Out-of-town fares are equally affordable. The base fare is $1.50, plus and additional charge of $0.25 for each additional town. Traveling to the town next door? The fare would be $1.75. Traveling two towns over? The fare would be $2.00. In some cases, utilizing SCM Elderbus for out-of-town medical appointments may be less expensive than using your own personal car!
